CONCERT FOR IGNAZIO VIGONI: IMPRESSIONS
Summer Forum July 6-7, 2012: Migration, Democracy, Human Rights

The cultural, ethnic, and linguistic heterogenization caused by migration creates a number of challenges for contemporary democracies:
How can one agree on - common and different - values, rights, and duties? How much heterogeneity can a democratic society cope with, or what kind of possibilities can it offer for integration? And how much homogeneity is necessary? How do democracies deal with otherness? Does the Age of Migration require an updated definition of citizenship? Can the agreement on human rights and responsibilities offer possible solutions and contribute to the consolidation of democracy in an age of migration?
These and other questions around the themes „Migration – Democracy – human rights“have been discussed in an inter- and transdisciplinary way during the Villa Vigoni Summer Forum 2012 from a comparative perspective (Germany and Italy). Prominent political, social, scientific and economic decision makers who know what it means to migrate met to analyze the problems and develop new concepts and practical approaches to them.
